Merry Everything from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 …to you and yours!

We celebrated Christmas Saturday evening, which is not our normal—our family was together thanks to FaceTime, and I’m grateful; this was our first in-person (for most of us) Christmas gathering in 4 years. Having it on Christmas Eve was more about convenience for everyone.  As a result, I got to spend a quiet Christmas day with the Hubs and even got to sew a bit, in addition to doing laundry.

While savoring my coffee Christmas morning, I thought about some things from the evening before that reminded me how easily distracted I have been ...

New additions to the family from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

So, a funny thing happened on Christmas Eve...

I mentioned in my “some Christmas makes” post that the Hubs helped me out by shopping for walnut shells and some Velcro so I could continue working on the Sit & Sew arm caddy and pin cushions.

I had placed an order for pickup at JoAnn’s for the Velcro. While he was sitting in their parking lot waiting for the curbside delivery, he called me and said, “I need you to meet me in the parking lot at home. I’ve done something stupid.” He wouldn’t tell me what he had ...

Another small project - Fun and Done from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

...from another online class!

FWIW, online classes are a necessity given our current global pandemic state. I know I've mentioned that I'm not necessarily a fan, but remember when I said how much I clicked the "Buy Now" button? This was the result of one of those moments.

I've done some collage work and while I like it, I think my technique can be improved. I subscribe to Emily Taylor's (Collage Quilter) (NAYY) newsletter and she offered in... November? December? a free online class showing how to use her method to create her Winter Cardinal pattern ...

Absolutely PERFECT Bindings on the Janome M7 from Art and Quilting in Camden

This time I surprised even myself. After cutting 850″ of 2 1/4″ bias, I sewed it to twelve (what was I thinking???? clearly I was not thinking….) placemats and a 44 by 15″ table runner, ironed it, glued it to prep for machine sewing. Then, in about 65 minutes I got the second side of ALL the placemats AND the table runner SEWN! Check out the pictures and video!

First, I select my favorite buttonhole stitch: one forward stitch, then one to the side and back. I use the mirror image function to switch it so the sideways stitch ...

A “Covichat” with Lyric Kinard from Art and Quilting in Camden

Had such a fun chat with Lyric…this is a screen shot, but I’ll embed the video below, and you can also see it on Lyric’s YouTube channel, Lyric’s blog, and my YouTube channel too.

What FUN! My friend and artist and teacher extraordinare Lyric Kinard has started doing a series of taped video chats with folks in our line of work and art. We chatted last Friday, and the Lyric uploaded the video today. So ENJOY!

In the video I mentioned a bunch of things…things which aren’t on my blog yet! BUT…

Everyone’s a Kid Floor Cushions and Toss Pillows (part 2 of 2) from Art and Quilting in Camden

Today it’s time for part 2 of 2 in the “how to make cushions” tutorial! In this image, I’ve sewn the boxing strip–the bit on the edges/sides (black Galaxy fabric from Michael Miller Fabrics, Spring 2020) to one of the squares (top and bottom) to make sure I’ve got the fit right. Looks pretty good! The top on this one is the SuperFred fabric in gray (with this fun fox named Fred and a robot named Mike). Those glorious solids (SWOON) are part of the Cotton Couture collection. Colors are Acid (left), Yellow (top), Apricot ...

Everyone’s a Kid Floor Cushions and Toss Pillows (part 1 of 2) from Art and Quilting in Camden

Today’s projects are floor cushions and toss pillows from Michael Miller’s adorable new fabric line, SuperFred and Space Pals. As soon as I saw them I knew I’d love to make some floor cushions for my daughter-in-law’s Kindergarten classroom! You can find part 2 here as of March 12, 2020.

Pigwidgeon was asleep in front of the wood stove but allowed me to move him to another comfy spot to be my model. I am a Michael Miller 2020 Brand Ambassador for 2020, for which this is a monthly project. I’m also a Janome Artisan ...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Yesterday was my blog's 6th birthday. I've been slacking on the posts over the past year and probably won't be much better this year, but who knows? Let's reminisce about December, shall we?
My sister's masterpiece work on my Christmas tree
I had lots of ideas for decorating this year, but didn't get as much done as I would have liked. But, I had so much fun MAKING after several months of no studio work. It felt great to be back in the studio again and since school starts on January 9, I am ...
